About the Book

Ending the War with Myself represents one person’s journey. I am not a theologian. I am a Christian who happens to be a licensed professional counselor (LPC). As such, I have had many opportunities to interact with people, hear their hearts, their pain and realities; and then share the truths found in this book. These truths are important to me because I have experienced them myself.

I believe I have some insights that are often not clearly explained in our churches. These insights will not be anything new as far as scripture is concerned. They may well give you a new way of thinking about yourself and God.

This book targets the emotions and thoughts of the Christian. Our emotions are impacted both positively and negatively from the day we are born by external and internal experiences. More than likely you experienced internally a lot of what I have experienced internally over my lifetime. The external circumstances of our lives may be profoundly different and possibly100 times more filled with wounding than mine. What will be the same, however, is how our external circumstances impacted and wounded our souls. The wounds we experienced, if not dealt with, haunt our present relationships. Even more importantly, our wounds adversely impact our relationship with God; not from His vantage point does it affect us, as He loves us at all times, but from our perspective. We become puzzled as to why we are not experiencing God’s freedom, grace, and joy as taught in the New Testament.

We all experienced wounds as children. At the moment of the wounding, we were either told a lie by the offender or we interpreted the event and told ourselves lies. These lies enter into our belief system and block our experiencing the grace of God in many areas of our lives. The enemy of our souls loves to keep us ignorant in our hearts of what we may or may not know in our heads about the love of God. As long as we are unaware of what is available to us from God and of what is blocking our progress in the Christian faith, the effects of the wounds, sins, and dislike of self will hinder our living life to its fullest in relational and spiritual matters. Hopefully this book will give you insight into these areas of your life.

I desire to get the word out to Christians and non-Christians that God is not who the world thinks He is. He is overly represented as the God of wrath and punishment. The truth is Jesus already took God’s wrath and punishment for everyone. There is none left for the believer. We are now free to experience God’s love and grace. Accepting yourself as God does is critical for ending the war with yourself; because if you believe God is judging your every imperfection you will be hyper-vigilant about measuring up. I pray from these pages a new reality of God will emerge and you will experience a paradigm shift in your heart of hearts.

Grace Is

Grace is victorious in my life when I come
To the place where I can accept myself
For who I am and where I am regardless
Of my past or present failures;

Grace is victorious in my life when I can
Say about myself what God says about me:
“I am forgiven.
“I am loved by God.
“I am a child of God.”
“I am righteous in God’s sight.”
“I am accepted in the beloved.”
“I am the disciple whom Jesus loves.”

Grace is Victorious in my life when I know
And experience God as my best friend
With my best interests at heart.

Grace is victorious in my life when I know
And experience I am at one with God,
And at one with myself.

Grace is victorious in my life when I can
Rest in the Sabbath rest of God,
And befriend and encourage myself as God does.
Knowing and experiencing His mercy, His love,
His grace, His guidance; because I give myself
Mercy, love, grace, forgiveness, acceptance, and
Godly guidance.
